Hello From Jaipur, India!

After making it to Jaipur yesterday, I was so hot and exhausted.  I was able to get eight hours sleep and when I woke up, did not want to stay up. But I had a driver booked so up I go.

Breakfast was a buffet in the hotel, included with the cost of the room.  I ordered scrambled eggs.  I was asked “one?” and said “no, two” thinking I would get two scrambled eggs.  Nope, I got two servings of scrambled eggs.

My driver picked me up and we were off to Chand Baori stepwell.  Photo from the ride:

I have been wanting to see this famous stepwell for many, many years.  It was glorious, even if not as glorious as the photos I have seen as the water level is very low.

You cannot walk down the steps.  I thought you would be able to.

There is a temple next door – Harshat Mata Temple.

I took this photo and donated 10 rupees and the guy in this photo handed me some crystals.

I also saw this goat on my way out.

I went back to the car completely soaked in sweat.  So physically uncomfortable.

We then drove to the monkey temple.  Which should be named the cow and fly temple since there were more of each than there were monkeys.  But there were still monkeys!

This place was incredibly beautiful.  I had researched it before going and was still surprised at how pretty it was.

I almost died of heat exhaustion here as well.

Here is a photo I took just to pretend I was interested enough in whatever this is to stop and gaze out at it while photographing it.  In reality, I was just catching my breathe from walking up a million miles.

On our way back to my hotel, we passed a ruckus.  There were a lot of people and police on the side of a road.  The traffic was bottlenecked in that area.  My driver pointed to the top of a water tower where there was a man and told me “he is going to kill himself, that is why all these people are there.”

Yikes.

When I got back to my hotel, I had two hours to nap before going to work.  My mobile data is still not working so I fought with AT&T about that for over and hour and had to stop only because my first work meeting was happening.  I guess this is just not going to get fixed.  I already researched and apparently AT&T has the best international package so I don’t know that I will keep my swear that I am cancelling them as soon as I get home. Although it really doesn’t matter if they have the best packages if they don’t work.

I think my favorite part of the conversation was him telling me to take out the sim card and me saying I didn’t have anything to open it with.  He suggested I use a paperclip.  Well I did not pack paper clips on my vacation and I can’t ask Google where to buy one since I can’t get on the internet.

When I arrived back at my room, I found a towel animal, but I don’t know what animal it is?  Love the elephant though.

I had dropped off some laundry yesterday to get done for me.  It came back today.  They ironed and starched my pajamas.

Some ways I have almost died in my hotel room:

Yesterday, slipped across the shower as I didn’t realize it was wet when I was putting my shampoo in there

Walking out onto my balcony, there are two steps down.  I missed one and went stumbling across the balcony.

Trying to unlock the balcony door. I could not get it to budge, put all my strength into it.  The rug I was standing on slipped and I started going down.  But thankfully, I smashed into the door that would not open and I was saved.

Sigh.

Tomorrow I am going to see the Hawa Mahal and that may be it.  It may not be. I am surprised at how well I am handling working full time while in India.
