Las Vegas Trip Report – March 25, 2002: The Day We Ate at Denny’s

Note:  This is an older Las Vegas trip report that was written back in 2002.  Most of this information is now outdated and a lot of what is mentioned no longer exists.

Monday, March 25, 2002 – Day Two of Six

This morning we woke up very early at the Barbary Coast.  We walked to the Mirage to eat their breakfast buffet, before visiting the Dolphin Habitat.  Both of these things were courtesy of Wagerworks.

[Once again, 2014 called. It wants you to know that back in the day old school, there was an online slot game called Wagerworks. You would play for free and get real life comps. If you are a Las Vegas addict in current times, you probably play MyVegas on Facebook. It was very similar to that in that you got free stuff for FREE from MGM Properties for playing free online games]

I have never woken up this early in Vegas.  I am normally just coming to bed at this hour. It was very unusual for me to be wide awake and SOBER outside at 8:00 am. Las Vegas is very quiet and serene at this hour. The Las Vegas Strip is dead and it’s so peaceful. Who knew?

Sunday, March 24, 2002 – Day One of Six

This trip was a Christmas present for my mother, who has never seen Las Vegas and has always wanted to. I covered all expenses, including her gambling budget.

This trip was abnormal for me because my mother has Cancer. She cannot go for hours and hours and hours like I am accustomed to doing. I had to adjust so we could spend a lot of time in the hotel room for her to rest. I absolutely did not mind doing this for her. I just want to warn you that if you are reading this looking for tales of wild debauchery, there will be none.

Winning Weekend in Atlantic City, New Jersey

So I love gambling.   If you are unaware of this, then this must be your first time here.  Welcome!

I wanted to take one last trip to Atlantic City as once March hits, I have way too many travel plans that I will not be able to fit a gambling trip in until September at the earliest.  This does not include the fact that I will be in MACAU in May.  But that will not be a true gambling trip since you know, I should actually see the city.

So I picked the dates I wanted to go – next weekend.   Oh hey what is the one weekend that is not coming up comped for me?  That’s right, next weekend.  Fine, I will gladly go this weekend then.

I left work early and went to Port Authority to catch the bus.   As I typically do, I happen to find a penny on heads in Port Authority.  I am really good at finding pennies on heads when I am gambling.  This particular penny happened to be next to a dime on tails.  I couldn’t decide if picking up the dime would undo the penny’s luck.  But I am a cheapo weirdo who must pick up ALL CHANGE EVER (except pennies on tails obviously) so I grab that too.

Las Vegas Trip Report: Final Day of a TWENTY ONE Day Trip to Las Vegas

Thursday, January 1, 2009 – Day Twenty One of Twenty One

I wake up at the Sahara and instantly start crying about my deleted pictures again. I am tryyyyyying to let it go but I am so upset. I mope around my room and decide my 2009 is off to a horrible start. Then I think back to last January 1 and remember that last year on this day, I flew to Las Vegas and checked into the Sahara. This year on New Year’s Day, I am checking out of the Sahara and flying home.

I checked out and did not leave housekeeping a tip. I did leave a note explaining why (in case you missed it, there was a ball gag left behind in my room from the previous guest) and that “if you aren’t the housekeeper who neglected to empty my trash, I apologize to you on behalf of your coworker. If you are the housekeeper who neglected to empty my trash, shame on you “

December 31, 2008 – New Year’s Eve on the Las Vegas Strip

Wednesday, December 31, 2008 – Day Twenty of Twenty One – Last Full Day!

Today I wake up at around 9-ish at the Sahara.  I break my “play until you have ZERO cash left and then go to the ATM” rule and take out $300. I’m still under budget. I played $25 and lost. Come ON it’s my last full day.

I attempted to eat breakfast  at the Caravan Café, but the line is monstrous.  So I get on the Deuce bus instead and head downtown. I write a lot of notes as I’m waiting for/riding the Deuce and they are all me beating myself up for that day I lost $400 IN ONE DAY like days ago. The stupid Quick Quads really irks me. Not only that, I did it twice. Not only THAT, I didn’t even know I did it twice until I got home and was typing this report.  Because this trip is so long that by the time I did it the second time, the first time was so far in the past it got lost in my senility.

ANYWAY.

Tuesday, December 30, 2008 – Day Nineteen of Twenty One

I can’t believe I go home the day after tomorrow.

I had a very deep sleep last night and woke up at 9:45 AM at Sahara. I think yesterday wore me out. I go downstairs for breakfast, stopping at nickel Double Double Bonus video poker. I hit sixes:

Breakfast is at the Caravan Café at the Sahara. I got Eggs Benedict.  The service here as quick as Fitzgeralds is slow, which means it’s very excellent.  I pay for breakfast  with points and then go back out.

Saturday, December 28, 2008 – Day Seventeen of Twenty One

I woke up at Fitzgeralds at at 10:00.  I’m doing a lot better with sleeping in.

I go down for breakfast, stopping at the old school wheel poker and lose some money.  I go on a losing streak and am back in my room at 10:45.

I manage to actually take a nap today . I go back out at three-ish.  I play at Fitzgeralds and lose everything I have left for today until I am down to my last $100 bill.  This isn’t good.

Las Vegas Trip Report: The One Where I Accidentally Assault Someone In an Elevator

Saturday, December 27, 2008 – Day Sixteen of Twenty One

Only six days left.  Damn.

Today I slept until 10:00 at Fitzgeralds.  I was out at 11:00  I waited 90 years for the elevator.  The elevators here are notoriously slow  I only have six days left in Las Vegas.  I couldn’t afford to lose this time so I took the stairs. A lot of people do the same. One of them was a kid who was BOLTING down the stairs until a security guard came running in and freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaked out on him, demanding to know what he was doing.  The kid tells him “the elevators don’t work, I am taking the stairs” and security yelled “WHERE ARE YOUR PARENTS?” The kid said they were coming.  This all surprised me.  I was unaware how well monitored elevator stairwells are in Las Vegas.

Once I hit the ground floor, I got completely lost while trying to figure out how the hell to exit from the stairwell.  I started panicking thinking I was going to get in trouble because I was in areas I am sure I did not belong in.

FINALLY I found an exit.

Friday, December 26, 2008 – Day Fifteen of Twenty One

I wake up at Fitzgeralds in a very hot room.   Today’s notes do not have me whining about my trip being almost over.  Go figure.

I go downstairs and play a Wheel of Fortune slot machine for some reason. I lose my money so fast. How the hell did I used to play games like this exclusively? I walk near the front (or back?) of the casino and I see a weirdo video poker with a wheel.  This one spins when you get a full house.  It’s a coin dropper, so it’s old and not new. I’ve never seen it before. It takes 20 nickels.

I play. I get two regular ol’ four of a kinds.

Thursday, December 25, 2008 – Day Fourteen of Twenty One

I wake up at Ballys at 8:30 am.  I walk over to the Flamingo to register for the Winterfest slot tournament that I am here on an offer for. I was too late to do the tournament yesterday, so I get to do it twice today.  But they only have one time slot that I want available. Death.

I eat breakfast at the Flamingo coffee shop. Eggs Benedict and coffee comes to $18.04. I’m really not downtown any longer with these prices. I also don’t have enough points to cover it since I have barely played anything at any Harrahs property in a really long time.
