Las Vegas Trip Report: Have I Mentioned I Love Free Play?

Las Vegas is fucking expensive.  i know, breaking news right?

My Instagram feed tells me that Fever now has Las Vegas events.  Fever is an app that I use constantly in New York City to book cool stuff.

(When I get home, I’ll finish a post i started about finding cheap things to do in New York City.)

But it kind of blew my mind to see how much more expensive the same things are in Las Vegas than in NYC.  Candlelight concerts.   These are forever happening in NYC. At home, they are under $40.  Here they are $50.

Aria has a “Museum of Illusions” for $50.  There’s a million of these places back home where I can get tickets for under $30.

I am not sure why I woke up whining about prices in Las Vegas.  Maybe because Instagram is showing me overpriced stuff while I am online at Starbucks.

I have plans today.  Too many plans.  I slept 11 hours last night, it felt great.  Let’s fucking GO!

I got a text to check out of California via their mobile check out and it worked! I wonder if mobile check in now works too?

Out to smoke before getting dressed. Being in the silver elevator tower at Luxor makes it easy to actually go outside vs the casino and there’s benches in the smoking area. Much better than losing $100 smoking in the casino.

Also this just in: Luxor has the weakest shower water pressure in all of America. Had to use the sink in the wet bar to get the conditioner out of my hair.

I walked over to Aria to have brunch at Bardot.  Zero of the up escalators were working, all of the down ones were.  I didn’t take food photos because I am terrible but I got filet mignon and eggs.  My vegan friends hate me.

You know, for a $90 breakfast, it is annoying that the linen napkin I used as a bib (because I am a fucking slob) left white lint all over my shirt.

There was a penny on tails next to my table.  You keep that shit away from me!

I saw a dog in a stroller as I was walking back to Luxor.

I return to Luxor suddenly way less wide awake and ready to go go to LET’S GO than I was when I left.  But I have plans today.  Too many plans it turns out.

First up, Mac King.  I last saw him a million years ago with my mother. Back when if I am remembering correctly,  Las Vegas Advisor had a coupon for $5 (?) tickets.  He was really good.  I felt bad that he was standing by the merch on the way out, willing to sign anything that anyone bought and no one was buying anything.  I recommend going to see him.

Back to Luxor to fight with the fucking Do Not Disturb sign that falls off every time you breathe near the door.   This suite has a separate thermostat for the living room and bedroom and they are both set at the same temperature but the living room is hot and the bedroom is cool.

Other notable thing about Luxor – dear lord I fucking haaaaaaaaaaaaate walking past the hotel registration with the 98347329743 people with seven times as many kids.  Use the mobile app people!

I have a ticket for Mandalay Bay Shark reef I got via MyVegas and also Tournament of Kings.  I thought it would be hilarious to torture myself with that.  I made it to neither.

I really needed a nap but kept going.

Mandalay Bay – $25 MyKonami freeplay.   Holy shit this was one hell of a fun time.

I went back to the room with $700 for the first time this trip.  I could not stay awake.  I took a nap and had a nightmare that my father broke into my house (I don’t have a house, I did in the dream though) and I shot him to death.  Then when trying to call 911, I could not hear the operator over live music outside and I had a climb a ladder for some reason to get the dude to stop fucking playing guitar so I could hear the operator.

I woke up not all that refreshed at around 9:00 PM.  This is a thing that always kills me.  It is 9:00 PM.  I am free. I can go anywhere.  But it is difficult to go places from Luxor.  I swear there used to be a bus stop across the street but now the nearest north bound bus stop is at MGM Grand. I am not walking that far to get a bus.  I am not taking Uber.  Going South would be an option except any casino I would get to going that way would be new to me and I a risking arriving too late to get a player’s card.

I know better than to play at Luxor.  I don’t want to go back to Mandalay Bay because I feel like I’d be expecting to win and that might cause degeneracy if that does not happen.  I am never going to Excalibur again.  So Luxor it is.  Don’t let the photo fool you, I lost.

I am never again staying at Luxor. I’d rather have the smaller resort credit and stay elsewhere.

Came back to the room, did some laundry in the sink.  Wrote this post.  And now I am going back to bed.  Hopefully without nightmares.

Today’s itinerary:
I had plans to go to a spa tomorrow with a Groupon I booked but I cannot get them to answer their phone to make an appointment so now I need to fight with Groupon to get a refund.
