I promised myself that in 2014, I would go to less fests. They take up vacation time and one weekend can cost the same as a flight to Europe. They are hindering my desire to see the world. That said, I am already planning for:
- March – Fest in Reading PA
- April – Fest in Washington, DC
- April – Fest in Worcester, MA
- July – Fest in Philadelphia, PA
- August – Fest in Ieper, Belgium
Oops?
2014 has me tackling Asia for the first time. I will be traveling overland from Hong Kong to Nepal, back to the USA via Nepal – Shanghai. I booked it like this because (a) I need a flight out of China to show on my visa application and (b) if i cannot get a multi-enty visa, I can take advantage of Shanghai being one of the places you can enter for 72 hours on a transit visa.
Every year I swear that this is the year I will make it to South America. Every year I do not. I am not going to say it again this year, and hope that it just happens. I just get so overwhelmed trying to narrow down a trip. It is really difficult when you want to see the entire country and need to narrow that down.
Also every year, I keep saying I will not be traveling to Las Vegas. Every year I am a liar. Let’s see if I can make this year the year of truth. I love Las Vegas, but I need to put that vacation time to better use.
I would love to return to San Francisco this year. It is my favorite city in all of America (yes, I love it more than Las Vegas) I didn’t get to go in 2013 so I am overdue for a trip.
I have five days in Europe before I have to be in Ieper for the fest mentioned up top. It is so hard to decide where to go when you want to go everywhere. I have narrowed it down to five places. I am leaving those places a mystery because if I ask for advice, we all know that all five will get votes. Then I will be even more confused.
Other goals:
- I need to get a really good camera. This is also overwhelming. I have looked online and I can take some classes on how to use a fancy camera. But you need a fancy camera to sign up. I don’t know what fancy camera to buy. So that is sitting on the back burner for a little while longer
- I need to get better at Twitter! It is such a huge tool for bloggers to get their blogs out there. But I truly suck at it.
- I have to get better at WordPress. There is just way too much I cannot figure out how to do (HOW DO YOU INDENT WHOLE PARAGRAPHS DAMMIT)
I have also been looking at house sitting websites lately. It’s kind of like looking at pet adoption websites, except that instead of seeing dogs you can’t have, you look at dogs you can have! Temporarily of course.
So that’s that! Other than Asia, I am not entirely sure where this year will bring. All I know is that I cannot wait to find out.
Happy 2014 everyone!
I have a single day in San Francisco coming up (a stop on a cruise) and I have no idea where to even start!
How long do you have/do you know what pier you are arriving at?
If you only have a few hours, you can really just spend it near the pier. Go to Pier 39 and you can see the sea lions. You can also see Alcatraz from here.
If you have a full day – GO TO ALCATRAZ. It is soooo cool. You have to buy tickets in advance.
With even more time, you can walk across the Golden Gate Bridge.
I am such a tourist when I am in San Francisco. I have taken every sight seeing cruise. I love all of them.
I love 20 mins from Washinton Dc. Welcome!
I am going to DC for the first time in March. I live 45 minutes outside of San Francisco. It truly is one of the most beautiful cities in America. I’m glad to hear you love it as much as I do.
If you are going at the end of March, you will get to see the cherry blossoms!
I love San Francisco so much. I envy how close you are to it
Sounds like you’ve got quite a year planned! If you do end up getting to South America, let us know, we have lots of recommendations. Just like Teresa, I am also from 45 mins outside of SF! It’s an incredible city and I hope you end up going back!
I am so envious of you living so close to San Francisco! I do need to get back.
