Udaipur: Not Eating Toast and Visiting City Palace

Udaipur adventures continue!

Working from my hotel last night almost broke me. I was in an important 3 hour meeting and my laptop stopped charging and I needed to present in hour 3. I watched the battery go down to 3% and then just logged off, figuring I may as well just be fired at this point.

I called company support who told me they needed to connect me with the manufacturer and it would take up to 24 hours ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

I Googled computer places and found one I could visit in the morning to buy a cheap one, since carrying around a second laptop is exactly what I need right now.

I had a slight nervous breakdown too.

I went to log back on to use my precious 3% battery to answer an email so important that I was scared to fat finger the response on my phone. Well guess what? The laptop is suddenly charging?

I finished the day with a hard stop at 5:00 EST. I never log off at 5:00 but I just had it.

I fell dead asleep and was awoken at 5:00 AM my time by dogs going off to the call to prayer.

Back asleep and woke up at 10. I think this means I slept a full 8 hours but can never be sure because keeping both EST and India time confuses me.

I almost didn’t go out today but then decided fuck it, just go and eat breakfast and come back and wallow in your luxury problem that work is interfering with your travels you spoiled American.

It seems most restaurants are to the right of my hotel but I walked left today thinking I could find somewhere near the City Palace but I stumbled upon nothing before hitting the palace so ended up walking the long way to the right of my hotel.

I wasn’t looking for any specific place so when I walked past a restaurant that forbids working online, I went inside.

I planned to finally have anything that isn’t toast and ordered banana walnut bread but they were out and offered me a brownie. Sure.

This was the view:

I walked back to the palace stopping for cows.  The baby was shy and hiding behind mom.

I  saw the woman who feeds the dogs near my hotel as she was pulling away and played Pied Piper again to all the dogs who wanted pets. They no longer start to wince when I pet them because they know me now.  I need to get a photo of my favorite one.  Here’s some other dogs.

After using the alcohol pads I carry to get the black filth off my fingers from petting dogs, I continued to the palace.

There is a maze of rooms inside and you walk up and down some steep steps to get around. I always followed tour groups that had octogenarians so I could ascend and descend slowly without falling and it didn’t look like I was the one causing the traffic jam.

Lots of narcissists taking photo shoots with cell phones.  Move it.

There were so many views of the city from various alcoves.

I was going to continue on but realized the grounds go on forever and I just really wanted to stop sweating and start napping.

There’s so many clothing shops. I visited the one where the guy never harasses me when I walk by and got 2 very lightweight shirts that are perfect for Bangladesh, where I’ll be later in this trip. I’m also going to throw out 2 heavier shirts I brought with me. I actually want to burn all my clothes and start over.

Back to the room where I decide to not even try napping. I don’t want to get over tired.

Tonight’s dinner was not breakfast!  It was pasta with alfredo sauce and garlic bread.  It was fantastic.

Random photos that didn’t fit into the narrative above.  I love that someone had to make a sign that said “fan” for no reason at all.
