Wednesday, December 17, 2008 – Day Six of Twenty One

My first thought of the day is “I can’t believe my trip is going so fast. Only 15 days left.” ONLY fifteen days left.  Yep, I wrote it.  And I meant it.

I am up at six, starting my morning at the El Cortez.  I turned on the news to see the weather and again they are yammering about snow. Yeah sure, just like the other day when you made a big deal about it and we got NOTHING, eh?

December 16, 2008: Day Five of Twenty One

I’m up at 5:30 am. Why. I go out and lose today’s budget before 9:00 am. Sigh, I hate days like this.

I retreat back to my room and nap until check out time. Check out of the California and into the El Cortez.  The check-in-ling comments on how tired I look.  What can I say?  It’s exhausting being a degenerate gambler. I get room 902 and my view is of workers working on the new Cabana Suites.

December 15, 2008: Day Four of Twenty One

Wide awake at 5:30 am. So much for sleeping in.  I watched the news and they say it might SNOW today. Wooooooooo. I also saw the local news report that Treasure Island was sold to Phil Ruffin. That’s pretty exciting. I leave for the morning with TEN BUCKS. That’s all I have left. I lose it and hit the ATM and then lose $30.  Why the hell not.

Sunday, December 14, 2008 – Day Three of Twenty One

I’m up at 4:00 am – not on purpose. But since I AM up, I start getting all panicky. I have an appointment at the Palms spa to use my 50% off coupon from the Las Vegas Advisor.  I’m all freaked out about getting there on time. See, this is why I don’t do well with having plans that revolve around a clock in Las Vegas. It is 4:00 am and I’m having a near breakdown because I don’t think I have enough time to do all the things I want to do before getting to the Palms by 3:00.  Mind  you, the only things I have to do before arriving at the Palms in ELEVEN HOURS are  (a) eating breakfast (b) eating lunch.  Sigh.

Saturday, December 13, 2008 – Day Two of Twenty One

I wake up at the California hotel.  My big plan of sleeping in is foiled by the light pouring in from the window shutters. Noooooooo. I’ve read people complain about how Main Street Station and the California have shutters instead of curtains and the light pours in. I never understood it, who goes to Las Vegas to sleep? But now I’m TRYING TO SLEEP and the light wakes me up. I’ll get over it.

Las Vegas today!!

I made a last minute decision that I did not want to lug my suitcase first to work and then to the airport.  So I went to work sans suitcase and announced I was leaving at 3:00. I ended up leaving at 1:45. I went home and sat on my couch all antsy about come on let’s gooooooo already.

Las Vegas Trip Report: Day Eight of Eight – Plus Bonus Rambling Content

December 3, 2013 – Day Eight of Eight

[This is the final day of my 2013 Thanksgiving trip to Las Vegas.  To start at the beginning, go here.]

Last day WAHHHHHHHHHH.

My flight home leaves at 4:05.  So I have until around 1:30 to still win enough money to not have to go home ever again.

I decide to not start gambling until after I check out so I don’t go too nuts.  I also decide that my goal is to not see daylight until it is time to leave to go to the airport.

Las Vegas Trip Report: December 2, 2013: Part Two of Two

Monday, December 2, 2013

[This is part nine of a ten part trip report.  To start at the beginning, go here.]

When we last left off, I was leaving the Mirage and continuing on to Flamingo to catch the 202 bus.

Here is the newly redone Imperial Palace.  It is owned by Caesars Entertainment and for some time, it seemed that they wanted us to call it a new name.  But that new name was stupid so I refused.  It seems that my boycott has caught their attention as now there is NO name on the building.  No name is better than calling it “The Quad”

Aria Animated Sign – Las Vegas, Nevada

If you are familiar with me, then you know I don’t take kindly to most changes in Las Vegas.  Or in life in general I suppose as well.

But there is one change that I cannot get enough of.  Huge animated hotel and casino signs.   The first property to introduce this was Wynn.   On one night back in December of 2008, I stood outside on a freezing night taking endless pictures of it.  Once I got home, I uploaded them and realized they were all horrible shots where you can see my breath in every picture because it was so freaking cold outside.  I still have it in my head to go back and do it all over again.

On this last trip, I repeated that night.  Only this time, Aria’s beautiful new sign was my model.

I realize not everyone has a sick fascination with seeing 238947238 pictures of a sign.  So I am making this separate post for it so as to not entirely clog up my trip report.

Las Vegas Trip Report: Monday, December 2, 2013 – Day Seven of Eight – Part One

Monday, December 2, 2013

[This is part eight of a ten part trip report.  To start at the beginning, go here.]

Today is my last full day.  WAH.

I wake up at the Riviera at 8:00.  One of the things I do not like about staying here is that the food options are awful.  The coffee shop is gone.  The buffet is gone (I think anyway, it was inedible so even if it does still exist, it is not an option)  You can have breakfast in their pub, but I don’t want to do that.  I want a very large iced coffee.  The only place you can get one around here is at the McDonalds across the street.  So that is where I go.
