Las Vegas Trip Report: Sam’s Town and Ultimate X

Continuining the Las Vegas trip report that started HERE.  Between these 2 posts was a National Park tour, and I will post about that eventually as well!

Returning to Horseshow from the tour, I had to pack and move hotels.  I am normally a light packer but for this trip, I packed too much.  Because I started out on a cruise to the Bahamas.  Then needed warm clothes for National Parks.  Then for Vegas, the Bahamas clothes were too summery and the National Park clothes were too wintery. I did not want to go home between the cruise and the flight to Vegas to change out wardrobes so I just overpacked.

For this first tour I am took, you cannot bring luggage.  You can only bring a backpack or duffel bag.  No problem.  I will just keep my shit at Horseshoe wihle I am gone and bring just what I need with me for the tour.

I thought I was smart. I packed everything I needed for the first tour in one packing cube.  So I should have simply taken it out, put it in my backpack and been done with it.

But when I opened the door when arriving back at Horseshoe, I was stunned to see SO MUCH STUFF all over the god damned room.  What the hell did I even do here?  Why is every single thing I have ever owned in my life in this room?  And all over the room?  Wasn’t I awake for only maybe an hour in total in this room before I left?  When did I even have the time to make this mess?

I make an agreement with myself.  I can repack in two parts.  First part, the annoying stuff.  You know, breaking down the camera and putting it in my backpack.  Repacking the toiletries so they are ALL together.

Then I can go smoke and gamble and come back and do the rest.  Which is exactly what I did.

I lost $200 on Dancing Drums but I am not mad about it.

Back to the room to finish packing.  Then off to Sam’s Town.

Much like I am weaning myself off business class flights, I vowed to also wean myself off Uber/Lyft.  So I have to take the bus to Sam’s Town.  But do I really?  Let me just look.  Fuck a Lyft is only $17, I am doing it.

I love the Sam’s Town atrium, most especially at Christmas.

I check in and get room 308. I love those camoflage curtains.

I had done a video tour of Sam’s Town 2 years ago.  The room pretty much looks the same except I don’t have that cool library wallpaper in my closet.

I dropped my stuff in the room, watched a light show from my room window and went to get started on drinking eleventy billion Dunkin Donuts coffees.

I had to get a new player’s card since I forgot to pack mine.  I did it at a kiosk and saw the free play from my offer was automatically added.  They keep changing this.  Some (most) times you have to get it loaded at the player’s club.  Sometimes you do not.  I like when you do not.

I played Ultimate X.  This machine was so nice to me last year.  Or was it earlier this year?  Lord knows I don’t fucking know.  I spent so much time in Las Vegas since the pandemic that all the trips blur together.  Another sign to STOP COMING HERE YOU ASSHOLE.

We started off nicely:
And stayed nice:

I ate dinner at TGI Fridays to use my dining credit.  I wish they had a real coffee shop.  Did they ever?  I am honestly not sure.  At some point during my stay here, a couple in the elevator asked me where the buffet is located.  You have to go back to 2020 to find it.

I am really wiped out.  The past few days I have been up at 5:00 AM and I have actually been doing stuff other than sitting at slot machines while chain smoking.  I cannot wait to go to bed tonight.

I went back to the room with $300, which is $100 more than I started with.  This is a fantastic way to end day one, even if it is not day one.  Day one was before I left for National Parks. But then I left and came back so it is day one again.

One thing I thought about while sitting in the van on the way back to Las Vegas is how I never use my camera in Vegas because I obviously don’t want to lug it around while gambling. And all my sightseeing here includes gambling.  My new favorite thing and my old favortie thing are having a battle for my love and the camera is winning.  Sorry Buffalo.

Once I have the next part up, I’ll link it here.  If you are reading this text, that means I haven’t posted the next part yet.

I also like Sam’s Town. The Atrium is a nice diversion from the casino. I’ve been going for about 10 years and don’t recall a coffee shop. They need to do something with the buffet space. It’s never coming back so do something interesting with it.
