Tuesday, June 14, 2005 – Day Ten of Ten

Up at 5:00 am – last day in Las Vegas!    I’m so sad.  I am out of the room at 5:30 am.  Head to Stardust, with a stop at Starbucks.

Stardust Sign Las Vegas

Lose and lose and lose.  Head to Wynn.   Lose and lose and lose and have $20 left of my gambling budget.   Put it in a lucky seals penny machine and win $85.   Wooooo.    Head to the buffet.   Wow.  $16.07.   Bacon was excellent, eggs were excellent, but other than that, I didn’t find anything I liked enough to warrant that price.   Also, the entire buffet is non-smoking.

Las Vegas Travel Blog: June 13, 2005: The Time I Scored a $300 Suite at The Venetian for $30

Monday, June 13, 2005 – Day Nine of Ten

Sigh – last full day in Las Vegas.  I’m not happy.

Check out of Sahara and head to the Venetian where I have booked a Rialto Suite for $32.82 thanks to a Travelocity mistake.   The check in line is absolutely ridiculous.   There is a FedEx convention and I am surrounded by FedEx employees who want to talk to me.   I think the fact that I look very young makes people very curious as to what I am doing in Las Vegas by myself.   I always get spoken to very condescendingly, as if the speaker and I have history and they are just begging me to say I regret going alone, as if they have been waiting forever for a chance to say “I TOLD YOU NOT TO GO TO VEGAS ALONE!”  This was pretty typical.

Get to the check-in-ling and I’m so scared she will tell me they don’t have my reservation.  I mean, what if Travelocity caught their pricing mistake and realized I am getting a $300 room for $30?

Sunday, June 12, 2005 – Day Eight of Ten

Woke up at 6:00 am at the Riviera and went downstairs.   I know the buffet at the Riviera is gross.   It’s so gross.  But I still have some food credit left so why not?   Ugh, why did I do this?  Why didn’t I go to Kady’s Coffee Shop?  The buffet is so horrible.   It’s just bad.   Really bad.  Nothing is cooked right.   They had “potatoe skins.”  They can’t even spell.   I wanted to get a donut but my stomach forbade me to do so.

Check out and take a cab to the Sahara, my next hotel of the trip.   Here I get room 2288 in the Tangiers tower.  Nothing special at all.

Saturday, June 11, 2005 – Day Seven of Ten

Up at Lady Luck, head over to the Fitzgeralds for a buffet.   The line is way too long.   I decide to settle for McDonalds.  This line is also too long.   I end up at Krispy Kreme.

After eating, I walked over to the Four Queens.  I wrote “video poker win” but that’s all I have and I certainly don’t remember it.

Check out of Lady Luck and head back to the Riviera.  I won $165 on my Double Down Stud video poker machine.   Hell yeah!

I head out for a bit.  First stop – Westward Ho.  Try a new penny Monopoly.  I attempt to cash out and realize it’s hand pay only.   It’s a new machine, it should be TITO dammit.  Wait forever.  Get my money and take off to Wynn.  My first time here!  I am excited!

It’s a pretty long walk in the heat.   I get there and there is just so much congestion outside.   The walkway is pretty small and it’s filled with people waiting on the taxi line.  This is not a good set up. No way no how.

I walked around a bit.  It’s really nice inside.  I saw where the water show takes place.  I rode the circular escalator.

Thursday, June 9, 2005 – Day Five of Ten

I woke up at the California hotel, very sick again.   My head weighed 834783 pounds.   But I force myself out of bed at around 7:00 am and go out to my vacation.  Breakfast is at the Main Street Station buffet, great as always.   I play some nickel video poker and win $70.   Why haven’t I tried this sooner?

Get back to the room and take some cold medicine and nap.

Go back out at 3:00 and get a Binions burger.  Play a bit and just lose.  Lose lose lose lose lose.   And lose.

Wednesday, June 8, 2005 – Day Four of Ten

Up at?  I have no idea what time I woke up.  I went downstairs and back to nickel video poker.  I’ll tell you, a $5 bill on nickel video poker goes a long way.

Keeping up with my “want to stay at every hotel” shtick, I once again check out and once again switch hotels.  Today it’s the California hotel downtown.   The cab driver starts to take me in circles downtown.  I tell him “the California is the other way.”  He starts to argue a bit.   I start to argue louder.  He then apologizes and tells me that he is very upset.  He heard on the radio that 100 people in his country were shot this morning and he is very worried about his family.   I honestly don’t know if he was jerking me around or not, I just don’t know.  I told him it was okay and just to turn around and go back towards the California.  He did and that was the end of that.

Quick Recap of Guilin, China

I will be posting tons of details and photos later on.  But for now, a quick recap.

How long was I in Guilin?  I arrived at midnight and had three full days plus a fourth almost full day before my 5:30 pm flight to Xi’an.

Where did I stay?  Green Forest Hostel.

How much was my hotel?  $576 Yuan = $92.20 USD.  I had a private room.  I paid extra for a room with a view of the Li River.  Unfortunately, there were trees blocking my view.

Quick Recap of Macau, China

I will be posting tons of details and photos later on.  But for now, a quick recap.

How long was I in Macau?  44 hours

Is it actually “Macau” or “Macao”?  I am glad you asked.  I have seen it spelled as both and you just gave me the perfect way to have both spellings in here for web searches.

Where did I stay?  Hotel Lisboa.  I picked it because I loved the way it looked.  My impression of Macau before I got here was that it looked more like Reno than Las Vegas.  Judging from the area outside my hotel, I nailed it.

How much was my hotel?  $267.84 USD.  I just had to do it.  It was totally worth it.

How much money did I spend in addition to my hotel?  $433 HKD = $55.85 USD

What did I spend that on?

First Impressions of Mainland China

I am currently doing my laundry in Guilin so I am going to take advantage of the spare time to do a quick post on my first impressions.  Side note: I will have clean clothes soon!  I didn’t do any laundry at all in Macau since it was so damp there that I was scared nothing would dry.  I have a washing machine in my hostel here woo hoo!

I arrived at my hotel in Guilin at midnight last night and ventured out today.

Older Chinese men LOVE to yell “HELLO” at me.  It’s actually adorable.  A couple of them were able to speak to me and seemed very excited to do so.  One kept telling me how happy he was to talk to me.
