Las Vegas Flashback: Boardwalk Hotel Stay in 2003

Hello Las Vegas Trip Report people!   Here is an older trip report that I hadn’t posted before.  It is from June of 2003.  I loved going through it and seeing all the things that no longer exist. The hotels.  The trams running 24 hours a day.  Starbucks being open 24 hours a day.  Player card booths being open until 2:00 AM. Basically back when any hour of the day was like any other hour of the day.   Nowadays, if I take a nap, I have to set an alarm to make sure I am awake on time to get my last iced coffee before Starbuck/Dunkin Donuts closes.  I could go get breakfast or dinner in any of the 24 hours in a day because everything was open 24 hours a day!

This little 6 night trip report has me staying at:

Boardwalk
Treasure Island (when it still had a pirate theme going on)
Palace Station
Paris

Part one, here we go:

Today I worked a full day, then took the train to Port Authority, and then a shuttle to JFK airport. The reason I took a shuttle, as opposed to a cab, was that I had plenty of hours to kill. I left work at 4:30 and my flight was at 9:30.

I get to the airport still with too much time to kill. Zzzzzzzzzzzz. It was pouring buckets outside and I thought “Soon I’ll be in the desert!”

Tonight I am flying JetBlue. There was a gate switch and much confusion that caused us to leave a little late. I thought I would sleep on the plane, but only did for maybe an hour. I had an allergy attack the last hour of the flight.  An apology to all the passengers who were able to sleep until my sneezing woke them all up.

I arrive at midnight. collect my luggage and it is off to the Boardwalk Hotel. I chose this hotel since I do have to stay in it at some point to complete my “wanna stay in every hotel” goal. And what better time to do it than when arriving at midnight?

Check in was quick (I would hope so, given the time) and I am up to my room. The key won’t work yeargh. I have to go back down, and they give me a new room. The room was basic, nothing special, but nothing bad at all. I had a strip view of Monte Carlo, New York New York, and MGM Grand.

Out to gamble!

My mother gave me $25 for Megabucks. I get it up to $64. Yay!

I head to Monte Carlo. This is when i realize I don’t have my slot card. Damned if I am going back to the room to get it.  I’ll just get a new one. Oh look ‑ the booth closes at 2:00 and it is 2:03. Oh well.

If you think these photos are horrible, not only are you right, but you should (never) see the ones I am not posting. Wooooof.  The best I can tell is that this trip is one of the few left I haven’t posted where my photo skills were a victim of the lack of a good camera.

I played a Frog Prince slot machine for  while, but never cash out. Late dinner is at McDonalds.   I head back to Boardwalk where I lose and lose and lose and lose and lose. One slot machine I now hate is “Austin Powers Time Portal.”  I hate it. The bonus only came up once out of $60 and I won like 60 credits. Big suck to you!

I head to sleep at 3:30 AM.  Good night Las Vegas.

Lol, This a blast from the past. I loved Monte Carlo and it was our home casino for years. I would walk next door to Boardwalk, because they had full pay Double Bonus Machines. Only two of them, but I played the hell out of them.

When going down memory lane typing this up, I remembered how much time I used to spend at Monte Carlo. We used to eat there at least once per trip even if we had to take a taxi there. I miss old Vegas.
