Las Vegas Trip Report: The Time There Were Only 28 People on My Flight

Tuesday, December 14, 2010 – Day One of Nineteen

Yes, day one of NINETEEN.

I left work early, even though I didn’t really need to.  But I wanted to because you know, I am leaving for Las Vegas today and I can’t stand to be at work any longer.

I took a cab from my apartment to JFK Airport.  This is a very rare splurge for me.  With the amount I travel, taking cabs every time I went to an airport would add up to more every year than the cost of a flight.

The airport was so empty and there were only 28 people on my flight.  I just love flying to Las Vegas at this time of year!    However, the downside was that when I got to my gate, there were zero people there which made me think I was late.  So I hurried it the eff up and did not stop to buy a soda.

My flight is scheduled to leave at 7:25.  Can you believe I am actually scheduled to leave on time for once?
ontime flightWell it turns out fate could also not believe my flight was going to be leaving on time so it intervened and then came the announcements that we would start to taxi at 8:00.

There is no running water on the plane, which means no coffee or tea for anyone.  Good thing I desire neither of these things.

As I am writing, I have absolutely no clue how far into my flight I am.  I really need to bring a watch with me, or remember to just set the time correctly on  your MP3 player you IDIOT.

I cannot stop yawning, yet i can’t sleep or even keep my eyes open.  Hate the flight to Vegas.

My plan on this trip is to win $337,000.

I have tonight plus two more days to play enough points to get Sapphire level at Boyd.  I’d love to actually do it but I feel like I’m just as close as i was in October and I did not make it then.

Landed at 10:40, got off plane quick since there was no one on it.

McCarren airport is in the Christmas spirit!

My suitcase was coming out at the first carousel as I was walking down the escalator.  How very convenient.

Outside, there are zero people in the cab line.  I didn’t even get to smoke a cigarette with how everything just lined up so smoothly.

I took a cab to my first hotel of the trip, Gold Coast.  The cab driver took the tunnel, which pissed me off.  Still, he got $30 on a $25 fare because I am in Las Vegas and stiffing him the tip would give me bad karma.

I checked in and got room 966.  I have no room photos because I just got to Las Vegas and who has time to take room photos when there are slot machines downstairs?!

I am here for two free nights on an offer I received that came with a whopping $5 free slot play.  I tried Supertimes Pay video poker but it wasn’t my preferred Double Double Bonus just regular Double Bonus. So I cashed out and played a Maltese Fortune slot machine and immediately got up to $50 from $20.  Cash out!

My late dinner is at TGiFridays, with a 25% off coupon I got from an email.  My server asked if I wanted lemon in my iced tea.  I said no and got extra lemon.  Thanks for asking!

I originally left my room at 11:45.  It’s now midnight and I’m up in winnings.   Of course I have only been gambling for less than fifteen minutes, so let’s not get too excited yet.

After eating, I am going to play $40 and then go to bed and crash with my TITO ticket for $50.  This may actually be the first time I do not go completely degenerate on the first night of my trip!

Dinner was a burger with an iced tea.  With the 25% off coupon, it came to $10.19.

I stuck to my plan and only played $40 in quarter Double Double Bonus video poker.  Each of the two $20 bills got me zero.

Back to the room with at 1:00 am with a $50 TITO and go right to bed.  I have no idea why it’s this late this early.  Or something.  Tired.
