Las Vegas Trip Report: Let the Degeneracy Begin!

January 27, 2018

I am awake at 8:00 at the Fremont hotel in beautiful Downtown Las Vegas.  I am a lazy slob who loses an hour of her life reading the internet on her phone.  I don’t pay for internet in Vegas so this is me using my own data. Because why get ripped off $13 for internet at a hotel when you can go over your data limit and pay several times that to your phone company?

I finally step out of bed.  My foot lands right on my lucky penny from last night, that has fallen and it now stuck to the bottom of my foot, tails side up.  You bastard.

I get dressed and am out of my room by 9:50.

I have all my money in $100 bills which I normally do not do.  I know me.  I know I do not want to stop and have to break bills before sitting down to play.  Case in point:  I sat down at a Buffalo Gold machine and put in a $100 bill.  Oops?  I hit a bonus and cashed out at $150.  YAY.

My notes say I then got on the SDX bus.  Where did I go?  Let me turn the page of my notes since I surely don’t remember.  OH HEY.  I went to the Strip!  Now I remember!  I went to get French Toast Pizza at Flour and Barley!

It is unusually hot outside for January.  I got off the SDX at Bellagio and had to walk back to the Flamingo. I should have gotten off and transferred to the Deuce bus   I usually never see the Bellagio Fountains up close because I avoid people.  But since I had to walk by, you get photos.

Bellagio also now has a Starbucks.  Sure it isn’t as bad as if it had been installed inside the conservatory.  But it still seems out of place.

I crossed the Strip and headed into The Cromwell to say hello to the nickel Ultimate X video poker machines I love there.  I am actually sweating from the unexpected heat outside so I have to stop and remove my socks.  Now I am carrying dirty socks around in my bag.  Maybe these will be a good luck charm, although I hope not since I do not want to start carrying around dirty socks in my bag for luck.

I put in a $100 bill and cash out at $80.  It would have been worse but:

I then walk over to Flamingo and go degenerate on a Buffalo machine.  I finally hit a bonus for $80, but only after I lost more than $80.

Finally at 1:00, I darken the door to Flour and Barley and finally get to try French Toast Pizza.  This was fantastic.  The part that looks like it is missing berries is because I ate them.

This would be enough for two, but I ate it all by myself because I am a gelatinous pig.

After eating, I am intending to do a free play run, using my coupons from Las Vegas Advisor and American Casino Guide.  I get on the shuttle to Gold Coast, which now leaves from nearby the High Roller.  I play quarter Double Double Bonus and get up to $60.   I cash out, and get my free play, which I lose on a Buffalo machine.

I should go to Orleans next, but I am just exhausted.  So I had back to the Strip.  Walking from the shuttle behind the High Roller, to the Deuce, which is now by Harrahs, just annoys me.  Why did they get rid of the stop by Flamingo?  The idea that there is no bus stop between Paris and Harrahs is ridiculous.  Did I mention it is unseasonably burning hot today?

I get back to Fremont and get my $10 free play that came with my offer loaded to my player’s card.  I stop at my favorite quarter Video Poker / Keno combo machine and lose the $10 free play and then proceed to go degenerate.  Until I am forced to stop.  By my machine locking up.  Because THIS:

Holy shit.

This is only the third quarter Royal I have gotten in my entire life and the last one was on my last trip.  I am not due yet, but hey, who am I to rat out the gambling gods?

This is a hand pay, although it should not be.  I also got a free shirt.

I have 60 credits left on my machine so i play those down and hit four of a kind sixes.  WOW.

I go to the room to lock up my winnings because I need to lock up my winnings to save them from myself.

I leave the room with $200 and head to Binions.  I love Binions so much.  I love everything about this place.  I wish their hotel was open*.  I loved their crappy rooms and their pink decor.

*Since I took ninety years to post this, the hotel IS opening again.  On August 14.  I am so excited!

I lost $40 in my Video Poker / Keno combo machine.  I then played Wonder Four Buffalo and hit a bonus for $560.  Please don’t let this be because of the dirty socks that are still in my bag because I forgot to take them out.  Please.  I do not want to start carrying around dirty socks.

I have enough points for two spins on the Motherlode promo.  I get a free gift and $10 off at the coffee shop.   I use last night’s coffee shop voucher for a cheeseburger, and keep tonight’s for tomorrow.  This promotion is fantastic for a solo diner.  My comps grow as I never use them any longer.

After dinner, I play a last $20 and head off to bed.

Or a last $20 before I decide to play another last $20 before bed.

I won $100 on an old school Buffalo machine.  Then I lost $200 on Video Poker and Cleopatra Keno combined.

I walked to Walgreens to get some cough syrup and ice cream.   Great combo.   Then I went to bed.

When we went in December 2017 we loved the Aria buffet. Sucks that you didn’t.

    Glad you’re back posting!

I was just thinking the other day… geez, whatever happened to Jennifer and her blog?? Imagine my surprise when I got an email notification! 🙂 I’m glad you are back as your posts always make me laugh, thanks!

BTW, I’m sure any Nevada store would have cheaper cigs than New York, right?!

Hi Steph! I bought full priced cigarettes in NY recently and they were $14. My corner bodega charges me $11. So absolutely yes, they are cheaper anywhere in Nevada.

I love your trip reports Jennifer and this one did not disappoint. I would have carried those socks in my pocket for the rest of the trip, I have no shame. The escalator story was great but sorry you missed your bus. You did have a lot of nice hits and congratulations on all of them. I’m going to AC for two nights at the end of April, I may have to try the dirty sock method. LOL.

    Take care, Jim

Avoid the Steak at all costs at the Fremont buffet, but their Spare Ribs and Chinese dishes are okay. Also, their rolls make a good late night snack. Their crap game is the best in Vegas, but their B.J. games are unplayable

Fremont only offers 2x odds on craps and their blackjack is double deck. Where is your information coming from?

Thanks to RF I have come across your blog, which I’m really enjoying working my way through.
Your sense of humour really appeals to this English gent and I like how you write. However, I feel that I am missing photos on your posts that you refer to, unless that is part your style?

      Hi Ade!

I typically do post the photos I am referencing although to get this report out, I did a last minute rush job and it is possible I missed a couple. I do have about 27 photos leftover where I have absolutely no idea where they belonged. Welcome to my mystery novel blog.

Thank you for having me Jennifer!
Your blog was fun and you certainly managed to get around Vegas a lot in order to lose your money. I’m looking forward to the next mystery novel 🙂

Aw, I am sorry about your mom! I used to bring my mother on trips to Vegas and so many things remind me of her there.

I still haven’t tried Bacchanal. I get so lost every time I go inside Caesars so I just stopped going there.
