Las Vegas Travel Blog: Yes, I Packed 9 Hotels Into an 11 Night Stay

Thursday, December 22, 2005 – Day Ten

This morning I wake up at the Plaza (didn’t write what time) and go to Main Street Station for their buffet. I come back and play at the Plaza, but that’s all she wrote. I don’t remember what I did, but I’m guessing I napped.

I am back up and out at 5:00. I lose a lot of money. My sister comes and meets me at 7:00 and we go for dinner at Center Stage at Plaza. We both have Phe porterhouse again and with the coupon it comes to $70-something (can’t really read my handwriting). It wasn’t as good as the El Cortez and it certainly was not as cheap. However last year, our meal was better at Plaza than Roberta’s so I guess it’s all timing.

I know I am not the best photographer in 2020, but I am a lot better than I was in 2005.  Would it have killed me to move five fucking inches to get a better shot of the view from Center Stage?
On her way over to the Plaza, the button on my sister’s pants pops off and she needs to go back to the El Cortez to change. We decide to take a cab so she isn’t walking around Fremont street with her pants undone. Well we got the complete opposite of the nice cab driver the other day. This one is PISSED OFF that we want to go such a short way. So pissed off.

He is actually yelling at us and saying he waited outside Plaza for 40 minutes and we’re just going to the El Cortez? We both start screaming right back at him. My sister was yelling about how he shouldn’t be a cab driver if he doesn’t like his job, and I’m screaming that he is the nastiest cab driver I’ve ever encountered in my life. He then starts talking under his breath and I can’t hear what he’s saying, so I really flip out and tell him I’m taking down his name and medallion number and reporting him.

What is going through my mind during this is the trip report I once read where someone threatened to report a cab driver for long hauling him, and the cab driver lets him go for free to prevent this. The author of that trip report was relieved because he had no idea where to get the medallion number from. Well guess what? Neither do I!

I lean over the seat and get his name and the cab number. When I got home, I filed a complaint. For future reference, what you need to know is the name, the cab number and what kind of cab it was. The Nevada taxi website has pictures for you to aid you in the type of cab. Good to know.

We get to the El Cortez and the fare was $4.70. We’re both mad because neither of us has change so we have to give him a $5. Looking back, we should have asked for the thirty cents, just to be as much of a son of a bitch to him as he was to us. God I am getting angry all over again.

Anyyyyyyyyyway.

My sister goes upstairs to change and I run to MY video poker machine. While she is changing, I get 3 four-of-a-kinds. I love my machine!

I move over to Spin Poker and try that for the first time, in pennies. This game is fun and addicting.

We leave the El Cortez (if I had been there alone, I’d probably STILL be there) and head to Fitzgeralds. I play a penny Milk Money slot machine and take out $80. Next stop is Fremont casino. I get $50 on Lil’ Lucy. I am having a really great time. It is probably around 10:00 at night and I have over $200 on me. That’s more than the day’s entire budget. It feels great.

We hit Four Queens. I notice a new IGT game called Retirement Party. But it’s in a bank with that stupid Party Fantastico and STUPIDER Trailer Park Wwhateverthehellitscalled” game. I play and lose. I hate you.

Next is Binions. I win $20 and my ticket gets stuck. I wait awhile before I flag someone down to help me.

Continuing on, our next stop is Las Vegas Club. I get a $50 bonus on a Carnival of Mystery slot machine. What a great day!

Our last stop is Golden Gate at 1:00 am to use the 2-for-1 coupon in their diner. I get an omelet, it is really good.

I’m in bed by 2:00 with a couple of hundred dollars on me. It is my tenth day in Vegas and I’m still on budget. No trips to the ATM!

OMG! Those pictures of the Strat —- so retro. Thanks for posting your old TR(s). Like 95% of why I do my own TRs is to come back later and marvel at what I USED to do. Love seeing someone else do that too.

My trip reports are a diary for me. I did these things, I want to remember them. I also LOVE the outdated room photos. That Luxor bedspread was my favorite photo of this report.

Your blast from the past was just great and a lot of fun to read. Between 2000 and maybe 2012, I stayed almost always at the Stratosphere, so it was kind of nostalgic to see those old room photos. I’ve seen photos of the Fremont rooms before, but yours really showed how small the room is. You said you were a low roller back then, but you also had some good money management going on (for the most part). BTW; having porterhouse steak two nights in a row is not excessive; it makes you my hero. Thanks for digging up this report. As always, all the best to you on the next excursion.

Thanks Mike! I have been working on some other older reports I never put on this blog. Some are so old that the photos are stored separately on floppy disks. That should be fun.

I am currently in Vegas right now, so hopefully I will win a million dollars and be free to work on those older reports.

I had forgotten that you were due to return to Vegas right around now. Good luck and have fun………. and maybe another steak.

” I am out of money so I have to take $100 out of my “emergency” stash.”

That’s like saying “I’m out of beer… except for these two beers I have over here”.

    Rationalizations…
