Las Vegas Travel Blog: Yes, I Packed 9 Hotels Into an 11 Night Stay

Wednesday, December 14, 2005 – Day Two

This morning I wake up at Stratosphere and I am ready to go at 9:00. I take a cab to the Gold Coast to use an American Casino Guide coupon for the buffet. It came to $3.23 with the coupon. I kept track of every coupon this trip, I saved a bit over $300.

I put $20 in a quarter Double Double Bonus video poker machine and on my first try I get four of a kind 4s. $ 100. Yay! I go over to a Drew Carey slot machine and get a bonus for $97.32. I am up $200, and I’ve only been out less than an hour!

I go outside and cross the street to the Palms and play a 100-play video poker machine and accidentally hit max bet. I won $60!

I had a massage appointment at Palms for 12:00. I figured it would be a nice way to start off the trip and I was right.

When I was done, I played a bit and took $50 out of a Clint Eastwood Fistful of Dollars slot machine. My first day is great!

I shuttled over to the Orleans for their lunch buffet using a 50% off coupon. I love coupons. While there I played some new IGT penny slot games: Baker’s Dozen (this one features characters from Nurses Follies and has no bonus), Crafty Carl’s Crabmania and Persian Princess. I don’t win.

Next up, I take the Boyd shuttle to the Barbary Coast. Once again I try some more new IGT penny slot machine games: Coyote Moon – this one can pay big, but normally doesn’t. Stinkin’ Rich – I hated this game. Lucky Lion Fish – which I bet has a cute bonus although I never saw it.

From here, I walked to Aladdin to use a free slot play coupon. I keep wondering when they are going to tell me “no”. I use so many of them and they always give it to me.

I played an Agassi slot machine game and lost. Next I played a Laverne and Shirley slot machine game and won $50.

Next up, I take the bus back to Stratosphere to collect my luggage. It is as slow as I remember. I get my bag and head to Golden Nugget. I had an offer for two nights for $100, tax included. I have always wanted to stay here and seem to have missed the days when you could get a room here for $50. So I was happy.

Golden Nugget lobby:

I check in and get room 799 in the South Tower. Now of course, even though I have never stayed here before, I know it’s the nicest hotel downtown. But I didn’t think it would be THIS nice. It was really nice! The walk from the South Tower to the casino is a really long one.

Golden Nugget Christmas:

I went to Binions and played a bit on penny slot machines. I went to Plaza to play nickel video poker and lost BUT I did get my money back on a Wild Bear slot machine.

For dinner I ate at the Carson Street Café at Golden Nugget. The food was good, and my kept filling my glass without asking, even when it was only half empty. I loved her. I used a $3 coupon from the fun book I got when checking in.

It has been a very long day and I’m ready for bed. On my way to bed, I played a nickel Twin Win lost machine and won $50 twice! Nice!

I am in bed by 11:00.

OMG! Those pictures of the Strat —- so retro. Thanks for posting your old TR(s). Like 95% of why I do my own TRs is to come back later and marvel at what I USED to do. Love seeing someone else do that too.

My trip reports are a diary for me. I did these things, I want to remember them. I also LOVE the outdated room photos. That Luxor bedspread was my favorite photo of this report.

Your blast from the past was just great and a lot of fun to read. Between 2000 and maybe 2012, I stayed almost always at the Stratosphere, so it was kind of nostalgic to see those old room photos. I’ve seen photos of the Fremont rooms before, but yours really showed how small the room is. You said you were a low roller back then, but you also had some good money management going on (for the most part). BTW; having porterhouse steak two nights in a row is not excessive; it makes you my hero. Thanks for digging up this report. As always, all the best to you on the next excursion.

Thanks Mike! I have been working on some other older reports I never put on this blog. Some are so old that the photos are stored separately on floppy disks. That should be fun.

I am currently in Vegas right now, so hopefully I will win a million dollars and be free to work on those older reports.

I had forgotten that you were due to return to Vegas right around now. Good luck and have fun………. and maybe another steak.

” I am out of money so I have to take $100 out of my “emergency” stash.”

That’s like saying “I’m out of beer… except for these two beers I have over here”.

    Rationalizations…
