Las Vegas Travel Blog: Yes, I Packed 9 Hotels Into an 11 Night Stay

Thursday, December 15, 2005 – Day Three

I am waking up at Golden Nugget and am out to begin my day at 9:45.  I revisit the Twin Win slot machine from last night and it takes my money this time. Next up, over to to Fitzgeralds for their buffet.  Oh hey, it is closed for renovations. I end up eating at Shamrock Café instead. I think it’s only a matter of time until Fitzgeralds officially changes its name to “The Fitz”.

It is really cold out today. I need to cave in and accept that a hoodie isn’t enough to keep me warm. I am also really tired, despite having slept ten hours. Why is that? I’m determined to stick to my itinerary so I keep going.

I take the Deuce bus to the strip and stop at O’Sheas to lose some money. Next I stop at Harrah’s and play triple action poker and hey – I get my first fake Royal Flush on the third way. 600 quarters. I am happy.

I cash out and go next door to Harrahs to see Mac King.  I have seen him before and the show is pretty much the same, only this time there is the addition of the bear in the tent.  That ruled.

Once the show is out, I play and lose. I then attempt to take the shuttle to Sam’s Town but it doesn’t leave for another hour.  So, I go back in and play. I played a Carnival of Mystery slot machine and hit a bonus for $62.12.  Then I lose more money in a Mad Martian slot machine and leave with what I started out with in the morning.  It is nice to be midday and still have a full day’s budget left.

I get to Sam’s Town and play a bunch of penny slot machines.  Mr. Cashman, Max Action and some game with the word “Cheese” in the title. Once I am done, I attempt to walk to Boulder Station for their buffet. It was so cold outside and I was not dressed properly. It didn’t help that I got lost and walked alllllllllllllllll around Sam’s Town’s parking lot before hitting Boulder Highway*.   I made it to Arizona Charlie’s and had to stop inside to warm up.

*2020 called. It wants you to know it also didn’t help that I did not realize how far Boulder Station was. I never came to that realization on this trip. I only realized it years later.

I play a bit at Arizona Charlies and get four of a kind nines on video poker.  I am still too cold to go back outside so I play it down to zero. I give up my dream of going to Boulder Station and head back to Sam’s Town.

Sam’s Town is pretty at Christmas.

I eat their buffet, incredibly boring.  But they do have cheesecake so it’s all good.

I take the 8:15 shuttle from Sam’s Town to get back Downtown.  I hit the Four Queens and Golden Nugget and just lose like crazy.

Fremont Street and Fremont Street Experience:

I am in bed by 11:00.

OMG! Those pictures of the Strat —- so retro. Thanks for posting your old TR(s). Like 95% of why I do my own TRs is to come back later and marvel at what I USED to do. Love seeing someone else do that too.

My trip reports are a diary for me. I did these things, I want to remember them. I also LOVE the outdated room photos. That Luxor bedspread was my favorite photo of this report.

Your blast from the past was just great and a lot of fun to read. Between 2000 and maybe 2012, I stayed almost always at the Stratosphere, so it was kind of nostalgic to see those old room photos. I’ve seen photos of the Fremont rooms before, but yours really showed how small the room is. You said you were a low roller back then, but you also had some good money management going on (for the most part). BTW; having porterhouse steak two nights in a row is not excessive; it makes you my hero. Thanks for digging up this report. As always, all the best to you on the next excursion.

Thanks Mike! I have been working on some other older reports I never put on this blog. Some are so old that the photos are stored separately on floppy disks. That should be fun.

I am currently in Vegas right now, so hopefully I will win a million dollars and be free to work on those older reports.

I had forgotten that you were due to return to Vegas right around now. Good luck and have fun………. and maybe another steak.

” I am out of money so I have to take $100 out of my “emergency” stash.”

That’s like saying “I’m out of beer… except for these two beers I have over here”.

    Rationalizations…
