Las Vegas Travel Blog: Yes, I Packed 9 Hotels Into an 11 Night Stay

Tuesday, December 20, 2005 – Day Eight

I am up at Westin and out at 8:00. It is the first day of this trip where I am waking up without leftover winnings from the night before. BOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I check out of Westin, take a cab to Wynn, store my luggage there and hit the buffet for breakfast, joined by my sister. Their buffet is very good BUT the tables are way too close together. Everyone was having such a hard time maneuvering in and out. The guy behind me kept hitting me with his chair every time he got up – not at all his fault though. Oh and service sucked here. It took forever for drinks. Too many tables and not enough servers.

After eating I play and lose – shocking! We walk to Fashion Show Mall so I can buy a new pair of jeans since I ripped mine on a cab door. After, back to Wynn to and collect my luggage and catch a cab to Circus Circus, where I’m staying tonight. My sister tags along since we intended to go to the Stratosphere for lunch (but didn’t because we weren’t hungry).

I knew that the Circus Circus would most likely be hell on earth because of all the kids. But the kid part wasn’t that bad. The only really annoying kid I dealt with was a teenager coming up to me while I was playing a slot machine and asking me for a cigarette. Go away.

I got room 12710 in the Skyrise Tower. Damn, is this a far walk from both the Strip AND from registration. Thank god for bellmen!

The room isn’t bad at all. It isn’t great, isn’t anything really. The window opens and I like that. I actually slept with the window open until I woke up in the middle of the night and thought it was daytime because of all the light pouring into my room from the Circus Circus lights.

We sit around my room for a bit and do nothing. Then it’s time to go out. I lose money on my way out. We visited Slots a Fun casino where they have quarter Monopoly. and I lose some more money. Then I move around the casino losing even more. I played a Gilligan’s island slot machine and get up to $75 and cash out. Slots a Fun is still on hand pays for penny machines (except for the ones that pay you in nickels, which also sucked.)

Dark Westward Ho:
We go outside and cross over to the Riviera. Not too sure why I come here anymore. But at least I didn’t lose any money.

By 5:00 we are hungry so we take the bus Downtown to use my coupon for the Golden Nugget buffet. My sister treats.

We hit the Eel Cortez so I can play MY machine and it isn’t giving me any damn money. Why not? Hello, you are MY machine!!! I play and play and lose and lose and end up going into tomorrow’s budget and lose some of that too.

I finally head back to the Circus Circus, broke and exhausted. My first day waking up with no winnings, my first day heading to bed with no winnings, my first day where I’m already into the next day’s budget.

OMG! Those pictures of the Strat —- so retro. Thanks for posting your old TR(s). Like 95% of why I do my own TRs is to come back later and marvel at what I USED to do. Love seeing someone else do that too.

My trip reports are a diary for me. I did these things, I want to remember them. I also LOVE the outdated room photos. That Luxor bedspread was my favorite photo of this report.

Your blast from the past was just great and a lot of fun to read. Between 2000 and maybe 2012, I stayed almost always at the Stratosphere, so it was kind of nostalgic to see those old room photos. I’ve seen photos of the Fremont rooms before, but yours really showed how small the room is. You said you were a low roller back then, but you also had some good money management going on (for the most part). BTW; having porterhouse steak two nights in a row is not excessive; it makes you my hero. Thanks for digging up this report. As always, all the best to you on the next excursion.

Thanks Mike! I have been working on some other older reports I never put on this blog. Some are so old that the photos are stored separately on floppy disks. That should be fun.

I am currently in Vegas right now, so hopefully I will win a million dollars and be free to work on those older reports.

I had forgotten that you were due to return to Vegas right around now. Good luck and have fun………. and maybe another steak.

” I am out of money so I have to take $100 out of my “emergency” stash.”

That’s like saying “I’m out of beer… except for these two beers I have over here”.

    Rationalizations…
