Friday, December 16, 2005 – Day Four
My trip is going too fast! I can’t believe its day four already.
I am still at Golden Nugget, checking out today. I am dressed and out by 9:00. Even though I’m sleeping a LOT, I am exhausted. Why is this??
Out and play and lose and lose and lose some more!
Breakfast is at the Golden Nugget buffet. It is great as always. After eating, I walked over to the El Cortez to play MY nickel video poker machine. I stopped and get a new bag on the way. My backpack was annoying the hell out of me.
I get to my machines and greet it and tell it I loved and missed it. It returns the affection by giving me six four of a kinds in 30 minutes. I love my machine.
I leave up with $85 in winnings.
Back to Golden Nugget to check out. I took a cab to Luxor for $17. I am given room 7091 – very far from the elevator. Excuse me, inclinator. I hate the inclinator. You need to insert your room key to press your floor and every time I did, the light wouldn’t turn green. This was happening to other people as well. But the inclinator didn’t just sit on the ground floor, it would begin moving. So, I’d be going up and it wouldn’t stop at my floor and I’d have to ride it up and down several times. I got saved by a hotel employee three times during my one night stay. This was ridiculous.

And the view:
I nap for an hour and head over to Mandalay Bay to take the shuttle to Silverton. When it was 15 minutes late, I gave up. I still refuse to accept that I need more than a hoodie in this weather and I was freezing.
I go inside and play a bit in Mandalay Bay. I played a Beetle Baily slot machine and a Get Eggcited machine. I love the bonus on the Get Eggcited game, it is really cute. I leave even.
Back to Luxor. I play Monopoly Reel Riches. I get up to $50 and go all the way back to zero trying to get the damn bonus. I hate myself when I do this. And of course, I never got the bonus.
I have a $30 food credit at the Luxor so I’m eating here tonight. I hit the buffet. Wow, it was not at all worth the free price I paid. The only things they had that I would normally be okay with were turkey and pork chops. But both were done so horrible that I didn’t want them. The only thing they had that I really liked was cheesecake. It was on a high shelf, and the front was empty and I could not reach far enough back to grab it! I ate a lot of bread.
I head back to my room and stop at a Twin Win slot machine. I turn $5 – $75, cash out. Turn $5- $20, cash out. I lost my next $5 bill and cash out.
I am in my room at 5:00. I have no clue what to do tonight, so I nap. I get up and dressed and walk to the Excalibur. Why do I enter this casino? I always get lost. Always. I was so mad at myself as I was walking around lost. I spot a new slot machine called You Bet Your Life. I liked it and it kept my mind off the fact that I am once again lost inside the Excalibur.
Excalibur Christmas:
I find my way out and head to MGM Grand. They have made a lot of changes here. When you first walk in from the pedestrian bridge from New York New York, they have a poker room and a bar. There is now only one way to walk (they were doing construction) which was a walkway between the bar and the tables. But the thing is that the bar features dancers dancing on tables. So everyone in the walkway was doing far less walking and much more gawking. It took forever to get through there.
I finally get through the masses of people and pick a machine and it won’t take my card. I go to the card booth and get a new card and come back and my machines is taken. I pick another one and go to grab and ashtray. In the two seconds it took me to get it, someone else sits at my machine. I go to the other side of the bank and there are people sitting at the machines and not playing. I am getting annoyed and try to remind myself that this place is HUGE and certainly I can find ONE machine to play. I find it and lose.
I head over to the Monorail, unsure if I’m going to Sahara or Hilton. I pick the Hilton. All the reports about the construction being a huge pain are absolutely accurate. The casino was more than half closed off. So what was left was packed. Of course, I’m not going to pay an extra $3 to leave, get back on the Monorail and go to Sahara. And I STILL refuse to wear more than a hoodie so walking is out. So I play in here.
I lose some money on video poker. Then I see a slot machine called Deep Blue Dollar that looks cute. I play it and get down to one nickel. I bet the one nickel rather than cash out and win 50 nickels. I keep playing until I hit the bonus and cash out at $75.
To get back to Luxor, I take the Monorail towards MGM Grand. Except I refuse to go through MGM Grand again so I get off at Paris and go to the Aladdin to use another free slot play coupon.
I lose and lose and lose. Then I play a Fort Knox slot machine and get the progressive – a whopping $9.83. that’s my cue, and I leave.
I took the Deuce bus the rest of the way back to Luxor. It was a very long wait and I was freezing. I need to start bringing a jacket dammit.
I am in bed by midnight.

awesome old trip report… oh those gaudy bedspreads in most of the rooms – loved them! thanks for reliving 2005…
I loved the Luxor bedspread with the Egyptian theme.
OMG! Those pictures of the Strat —- so retro. Thanks for posting your old TR(s). Like 95% of why I do my own TRs is to come back later and marvel at what I USED to do. Love seeing someone else do that too.
My trip reports are a diary for me. I did these things, I want to remember them. I also LOVE the outdated room photos. That Luxor bedspread was my favorite photo of this report.
Your blast from the past was just great and a lot of fun to read. Between 2000 and maybe 2012, I stayed almost always at the Stratosphere, so it was kind of nostalgic to see those old room photos. I’ve seen photos of the Fremont rooms before, but yours really showed how small the room is. You said you were a low roller back then, but you also had some good money management going on (for the most part). BTW; having porterhouse steak two nights in a row is not excessive; it makes you my hero. Thanks for digging up this report. As always, all the best to you on the next excursion.
Thanks Mike! I have been working on some other older reports I never put on this blog. Some are so old that the photos are stored separately on floppy disks. That should be fun.
I am currently in Vegas right now, so hopefully I will win a million dollars and be free to work on those older reports.
I had forgotten that you were due to return to Vegas right around now. Good luck and have fun………. and maybe another steak.
Thanks Mike!
” I am out of money so I have to take $100 out of my “emergency” stash.”
That’s like saying “I’m out of beer… except for these two beers I have over here”.
Rationalizations…
